Hello TILTRS.
And a most JOYOUS EARTH DAY TO YOU! 🌏 🌎 🌍 🌏 🌎 🌍
We adore this planet and our sincere wish is that you too feel empowered to protect and heal Earth and her inhabitants too. Join us in celebrating our Earth, holding ground in Taurus Season, and embracing nature.
Our Earth Day pledge to you is committing to sharing the stories of folx tilting into radical systemic shifts. We are constantly inspired by our community across this pale blue dot who are spending their waking hours building, creating + working on projects which are enabling new, decentralized ways of doing things and solving the critical issues of our time: across planet positivity, climate justice, environmental intersectionality and social equity.
This week we also pledged some fiat to one of our favorite orgs: The Buckminster Fuller Institute. R. Buckminster Fuller was a 20th century American inventor and visionary with a mission of solving the world’s greatest problems as a ‘comprehensive anticipatory design scientist’. BFI is dedicated to the realization of Bucky’s vision of a world that works for 100% of humanity without ecological offense or disadvantage of anyone, by means of a design science revolution. We highly recommend exploring the visionary work of Bucky and checking out BFI’s enriching programs. 🚀

Bubbles + $DOGE + Audio Social 🐕
This week we met an Australian in the wild (literally, we bumped into him in the local regenerative market garden on our weekly stock up) who’d just hopped off the first flight into Queenstown airport (NZ) from Sydney, Australia. 🦘 Never before has Oz seems so unbelievably exotic. The global ‘Situation’ has certainly placed a new aperture on what Tasman privileges we absolutely used to take for granted. None of this cross-Tasman insult-hurling and piss-taking behavior. Australia + your inhabitants, we see you. We hear you. We adore you. 🦘🇦🇺🐨
$DOGE to the 🌙
Right now it really feels as if the Universe is being coordinated in some beautifully DAO-sensitive and memetically adamant way. But seriously. The trajectory of dogecoin ($DOGE) in the past month, and particularly the past week has been nothing short of incredible. And as Meltem Demirors so eloquently broke it down in her tweet thread, the correlation with the r/WSB (wallstreetbets) community is not to be taken lightly. If you’ve been tracking the r/WSB and $GME saga, you’ll appreciate the power of a highly activated Reddit army and what collective strength really means when an online community is galvanized to pump the crap out of an asset and really go full #TILT.
In the current context, you might say this is a bit of a ‘revenge pump’ taking place, as the r/wsb community did not like to be told that crypto chatter was getting banned from their subreddit forum (after the moderators initially said 3 cryptocurrencies were allowed to be discussed: $ETH, $BTC + $DOGE). The upshot of this? $DOGE is trading like crazy, (e.g ~$70B in a 24hr period, versus ~$25B for the most widely held and traded ETF $SPY)… wrap your noggin around that.
So what are we learning from this? The power of the people is IMMENSE. The power of memes is IMMENSE. And to all the TikTok-ers who are lapping up this time to crush the crypto onboarding journey in sub-60 seconds, y’all are freaking magic. In fact, this is arguably what the web3 space has needed for a long time. A fantastically on-trend, culturally relevant nudge to get normies (or ‘muggles’ in crypto speak) storming in the blockchain-savvy direction. To all the TikTok investors who are now $DOGE millionaires, kudos to you. DOGE TO THE MOON!…and before you ask, the @elonmusk irony is ofc not lost here. Just don’t get us started on $SAFEMOON :) Breakdown on that sh*tshow in a future post.
The Zuck goes after Clubhouse
I mean, we did call this. If you hark back to Ep. 7 of the Pod, we traversed the likelihood of FB taking a stab at a Clubhouse competitor product. And so it is.
What’s Zuck’s real game plan here then? Aside from obviously snatching yet another concept from a startup that’s gaining global steam and more DAU than many thought possible? So the FB HQ clearly want more FB users to start talking and listening. Does this mean its famous metrics of eyeballs 👀 , impressions and screen retention will take a turn in a more …might we say humane direction? What we do know is that the FB version of the Clubhouse-ripoff will unleash a lot more audio creation tools, namely Soundbites and Live Audio Rooms. This will enable groups of people to listen and interact with different ‘speakers’ on this virtual “stage”… (cue FB-branded Oculus-ripoff VR headsets perchance?).
The new product push also entails more features around voice recording, that can be left inside a user’s Newsfeed, and a Podcast Discovery product connected with Spotify…TBD on what exactly this translates to…Lest we forget Twitter spaces that’s also apparently forging ahead in the great audio-chat social race. Or Slack for that matter. Oo, did ya ever listen to that epic episode which forecasted that playing out? Worth a listen considering the world seems to be all about that AUDIO vibe right now. 🔊

CLIMATE TECH UPDATES
We are frothing over the agreement that John Kerry and Xie Zhenhua just reached around climate targets. US and China agreeing to climate goals is no mean feat, and they just released a joint statement that speaks to a way more cooperative vibe than what’s become normalized over the past few years. “Seriousness” and “urgency” feature in this statement, which is great and all, but what does this mean in actuality? Well, turns out Kerry and Zhenhua had some juicy convos around the global energy transition and how the two powers can really activate on that front. What’s also über exciting is the EARTH DAY summit that Biden has invited 40 leaders to (including Xi Jinpeng) where the hope is that China will make some new pledges around climate commitments. 加油 ! Let’s pump the (algae oil) gas on this collaborative climate push!
Meanwhile UK PM Boris Johnson is prepping for his meeting with old mate Joe, expecting to announce a 78% reduction in emissions by 2035. Right on BORIS!
We’re all about healthy competition in the climate context. The race has recently been nicely heated around which startups will claim victory over the Carbon X-Prize. It turns out that its all about being down to earth, grounded and …concrete-y. Two companies are splitting the $20 million prize, both of which are low-carbon concrete startups, that developed tech focused on decarbonizing concrete, the world’s largest material industry. Canadian based CarbonCure Technologies and LA based CarbonBuilt’s award winning tech will be, and actually already are, game changers for global decarbonization and the fight against climate change. It’s pretty wild to think that Portland cement, the core ingredient that bind concrete, accounts for 7% of global CO2 emissions. Changing what we build 🛠 structures and forms from can therefore fundamentally change the structure of how resilient our Spaceship Earth is as we continue in this period of critical climate threats.
